Abstract

Purpose : This study aimed to investigate the effects of empathy ability, major satisfaction, and grit on college life adjustment in nursing students.

Methods : A total of 272 nursing students participated in this descriptive study. Data was collected using a questionnaire survey between May 25, 2023 and September 10, 2023, SPSS 21.0 was used for the data analysis, which included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson¡¯s correlation, and multiple regression.

Results : Thus, college life adjustment positively correlated with empathy ability, major satisfaction and grit. The factor most significantly affecting college life adjustment was major satisfaction(¥â£½0.43, ¥ñ£¼.001), followed by grit(¥â£½0.32, ¥ñ£¼.001), and adjustment to the personality type(¥â£½£­0.20, ¥ñ£¼.001) and department(¥â£½£­0.19, ¥ñ£¼.001) and the explanatory power was 70%.

Conclusion : These findings suggest that there is a need to develop a systematic curriculum and activate student guidance programs that can develop and operate extracurricular programs to increase major satisfaction from admission to graduation.
